About Mrs. Gathje

Image result for virusesI am extremely lucky to be doing what I absolutely LOVE to do--teach science.  I fell in love with Biology when I was in the 9th grade, and I have been hooked on science ever since.  I graduated from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, New York with a Biology major and a Chemistry minor.  Then I moved to Minnesota to enter a PhD program at Mayo Clinic.  After two years I earned a Master's Degree in Immunology and left Mayo because I desperately wanted to pursue a career in teaching instead of research.  So I went to Winona State and completed a second Bachelor's degree in Secondary Life Science Education.  I am double licensed in the State of Minnesota to teach Biology and Chemistry.  I taught Biology for seven years at John Marshall High School in Rochester, then took six years off to be home with my young family.  During this time I was an adjunct instructor at RCTC.  This is my 9th year teaching science in Chatfield.

I live on a dairy farm in rural Stewartville with my husband, Andy, and our three sons. Andrew is a 2016 Chatfield graduate and he currently attends the University of Wisconsin at River Falls studying Dairy Science.  Bennett is a junior and Henry is in 8th grade.  They both run cross country and play basketball and baseball.  I am blessed to
teach in the same district where they attend school.

Outside of school I enjoy attending my sons' sporting events, quilting, gardening and reading.  Our family is also very involved in 4H. MC900431558.PNG
It is a privilege to teach again this year.  I look forward to getting to know all of you.  Please contact me with any questions and feel free to come in to introduce yourself!
